Ukraine Announces Ceasefire from May 6 in Response to Russia’s Victory Day Truce
Moscow: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced a ceasefire starting May 6, responding to Russia’s previously declared truce for Victory Day celebrations.
In a message shared on Telegram, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would enforce the ceasefire beginning midnight between May 5 and 6. He indicated that Kyiv is prepared to implement the move and will respond in a balanced and measured manner.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defense issued a warning that any attempt by Ukraine to disrupt Victory Day events would trigger a strong military response from Russian forces.
Russian officials also advised civilians in Kyiv, along with foreign diplomatic staff, to take precautionary safety measures in case of escalation.
Despite ceasefire announcements from both sides, tensions in the region remain high. The international community is closely watching whether these developments will lead to a meaningful reduction in hostilities or remain symbolic gestures.
