Trump Announces Plan to Free Stranded Ships in Strait of Hormuz, Warns Against Interference

Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced a new initiative to restore maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, pledging safe passage for vessels currently stranded in the region and warning of a strong response to any obstruction.

In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump said that multiple countries not involved in the ongoing Middle East tensions had requested US assistance to secure safe routes for their ships. He emphasized that these nations are neutral parties affected by the disruption rather than participants in the conflict.

According to the president, assurances have been extended that ships belonging to these countries will be guided safely through the restricted waterway, allowing global trade activities to continue without further interruption. Trump noted that many nations have been reluctant to resume shipping operations until the route is deemed secure.

The operation, named “Project Freedom,” is set to begin Monday morning (US time). Trump stated that US representatives are also engaged in “constructive talks” with Iran, which could potentially lead to positive outcomes for all sides involved.

He described the mission as a humanitarian effort aimed at assisting individuals, companies, and countries caught in the crisis. Trump highlighted growing concerns over shortages of food and essential supplies aboard several vessels, which could pose risks to crew health and safety.

The US president issued a clear warning that any attempt to disrupt the operation would be met with a firm response.

Meanwhile, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that US forces will launch a support mission to ensure freedom of navigation for commercial shipping through the Strait starting today. The mission will assist vessels seeking safe transit in line with presidential directives.

US media reports indicate that while direct naval escorts may not be mandatory for all ships, US Navy forces will remain stationed near the waterway to deter potential threats, particularly from Iran, and ensure the safety of maritime traffic.
