US-Iran Talks Scheduled for Today Canceled, Switzerland Confirms
Geneva, June 19, 2026 — Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the talks between the United States and Iran, which were expected to take place today, will not proceed according to the previously announced schedule.
The ministry did not provide detailed reasons for the change. The discussions were originally planned to be held at the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.
Earlier, Swiss officials had indicated that a new round of dialogue would begin following the signing of a memorandum of understanding facilitated through diplomatic channels involving Pakistan. Representatives from the United States and Iran were expected to meet in Bürgenstock to discuss the implementation of the agreement, with delegates from Pakistan and Qatar also anticipated to attend.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that no final decision had yet been made regarding Iran’s participation in the Switzerland meeting.
On the American side, a White House spokesperson announced that US Vice President J.D. Vance would not travel to Switzerland tonight for the planned negotiations.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Vance said that preparations for the next phase of technical discussions had not been finalized. However, he noted that the US delegation remains ready to participate as soon as arrangements are completed.
The White House further explained that diplomatic negotiations often involve complex logistical and organizational challenges, making scheduling changes possible. According to current plans, the vice president’s departure has been postponed.
Officials added that any updates regarding the next stage of talks or future diplomatic steps will be announced once further progress is made.
