Iranian Media Claims 5 Civilians Killed in US Attack on Boats in Strait of Hormuz
Tehran: Iranian media has reported that at least five civilians were killed during a US military attack on small boats in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to official reports, the incident occurred during what was described as a failed operation on Monday. Iranian state outlets stated that six boats targeted by US forces were not linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps but were civilian vessels transporting passengers and goods.
A military official told Tasnim News Agency that investigations were launched following US claims. The findings suggested that American forces fired upon two small cargo boats carrying civilians from Khasab toward the Iranian coastline, resulting in casualties.
The official described the attack as a reckless action driven by US concerns over the activities of Iran’s fast naval units.
Earlier, the US military had claimed it destroyed six Iranian boats and intercepted cruise missiles and drones allegedly launched by Iran.
US Central Command chief Brad Cooper stated that the operations were conducted to ensure the restoration of maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.
