Russia Backs Pakistan’s Mediation Efforts in US-Iran Ceasefire Talks

Moscow: Russia has expressed support for Pakistan’s mediation role in efforts aimed at reducing tensions between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that continued dialogue remains essential for achieving a peaceful resolution.

Speaking in an interview with a Russian newspaper, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow strongly supports ongoing diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran, particularly initiatives in which Pakistan is helping facilitate communication between the two sides.

Lavrov stressed that any future agreement should take into account not only Iran’s interests but also the security and political concerns of neighboring countries. He said a balanced approach would be necessary to promote long-term stability across the region.

The Russian foreign minister noted that the United States recognizes the seriousness of the current tensions with Iran but appears to be facing challenges in developing a clear and effective strategy for resolving the crisis.

According to Lavrov, responsibility for the current situation largely stems from policies and decisions taken in previous years, which contributed to mistrust and instability in the region.

He also highlighted the diplomatic involvement of Saudi Arabia and Egypt, saying that several regional countries are actively participating in efforts to encourage dialogue and reduce tensions. Their engagement, he added, demonstrates a shared desire among key regional actors to find a peaceful solution.

Lavrov emphasized that maintaining open channels of communication is critical, arguing that sustained negotiations offer the best opportunity to ease tensions and reach a mutually acceptable agreement between the parties involved.
