Pakistan Mediating Indirect Iran-US Talks as Efforts Continue for Formal Agreement Framework
ISLAMABAD: Indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States are continuing with Pakistan playing a mediating role, according to reports published by Iranian news agency ISNA.
The report stated that communication channels between Tehran and Washington remain active as both sides continue diplomatic engagement through indirect talks facilitated by Pakistan.
Sources familiar with the discussions said the two countries are currently exchanging messages and draft proposals aimed at preparing a formal framework for a possible agreement.
Earlier, an Iranian official told Al Jazeera that negotiators had moved “very close” to reaching common ground, adding that work on a draft agreement was ongoing.
Meanwhile, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that no final agreement has been reached with the United States so far, although differences between the two sides have narrowed in recent discussions.
The official noted that Iran’s uranium enrichment programme and Tehran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz remain among the key obstacles in the negotiations.
Earlier this week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there were “some positive signs” in the ongoing peace discussions with Iran. However, he cautioned against excessive optimism and said further progress should be assessed in the coming days.
