Control of Strait of Hormuz Is Like Nuclear Power, Says Adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader

An adviser to Ali Khamenei has described control over the Strait of Hormuz as a power comparable to an atomic bomb, stressing that Iran will never give up this strategic advantage.

According to foreign media reports, Mohammad Mokhber said Iran had long overlooked its geographical importance and dominance in the Strait of Hormuz, but Tehran now considers the position one of its greatest strengths.

He stated that the Strait of Hormuz is among the world’s most important maritime routes, and control over the area provides influence capable of impacting the global economy. Mokhber added that the strategic value of the strait is “as valuable as an atomic bomb” because a single decision could affect international markets and energy supplies.

The adviser further said Iran would not step back from the gains achieved during the recent conflict and would continue efforts to reshape the system governing the Strait of Hormuz. He added that Tehran intends to maintain its strategic position either through international law or unilateral measures.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most vital shipping lanes, through which a significant portion of global oil and gas supplies passes. Any escalation in tensions in the region can have an immediate impact on the global economy and energy markets.
