China Ready to Mediate to Keep Strait of Hormuz Open, Says Trump
Donald Trump has claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping is prepared to play a mediating role in efforts to keep the strategically important Strait of Hormuz open and reduce tensions involving Iran.
In an interview with an American television network, Trump said Xi Jinping is interested in helping ease the ongoing standoff with Iran and supports diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation in the Gulf region.
According to Trump, China wants to continue purchasing Iranian oil to meet its growing energy demands, which is why Beijing opposes any closure of the Strait of Hormuz. He added that China hopes Tehran and Washington can reach a lasting agreement in the near future.
The US president also stated that China has assured Washington it will not provide military equipment to Iran amid the current tensions.
Alongside diplomatic discussions, major economic developments were also highlighted during the visit. China reportedly agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft from the United States, a move being described as a significant boost for the American aviation industry.
During an official state dinner held in Trump’s honor, Xi Jinping reportedly adopted a friendly tone and referred to the United States and China as partners rather than rivals.
Xi also noted that Trump’s “Make America Great Again” vision shares similarities with China’s long-term national development goals, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the world’s two largest economies.
