LOS ANGELES – Iran’s national football team has arrived in the United States for the first time during the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, shortly after the announcement of a peace agreement aimed at ending recent hostilities between Washington and Tehran.

The Iranian squad landed at Los Angeles International Airport and later attended a media session as preparations continued for their opening group-stage match against New Zealand.

Iran traveled to Los Angeles on a short flight from Tijuana, Mexico, where the team had been based in recent weeks. The move comes after regional tensions and security concerns had previously prompted the squad to establish its training camp in Mexico rather than the United States.

Head coach Amir Ghalenoei expressed pride in representing his country on football’s biggest stage and said he hopes the tournament will help bring people from different nations and cultures closer together through sport.

The team’s arrival coincides with growing optimism surrounding diplomatic developments between the United States and Iran. Officials from both countries have recently signaled progress toward a broader agreement aimed at reducing tensions and promoting regional stability.

Because of logistical arrangements, Iran is expected to continue traveling from its base in Mexico to the United States for its group-stage fixtures during the tournament.

Supporters gathered in Tijuana before the team’s departure, offering encouragement and celebrating the squad’s participation in the World Cup. Enthusiastic fans were seen chanting in support of the national team as players prepared for the journey north.

Iran is also expected to receive strong backing in Los Angeles, which is home to one of the largest Iranian communities outside Iran. Many local supporters are expected to attend matches and create a vibrant atmosphere for the team throughout the tournament.

As the World Cup continues, Iran will be aiming to make a strong start against New Zealand while carrying the hopes of millions of football fans at home and abroad.
