Pakistan Cuts Gwadar Port Tariffs to Boost Global Transit Trade
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced major tariff reductions at Gwadar Port in an effort to attract more international transit and transshipment traffic.
Speaking in Karachi, the maritime affairs minister said the government has reduced berthing charges for container ships by 25 percent to make the port more competitive for global shipping companies.
He added that port charges for international transshipment containers have been cut by 40 percent, while fees on transit container cargo have been lowered by up to 31 percent.
According to the minister, authorities have also introduced one month of free storage facilities for general cargo to encourage traders and logistics firms to use Gwadar Port more frequently.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry stated that vessels carrying transit and transshipment cargo are being offered significant incentives, adding that the concessions are among the most competitive available at Pakistan’s national ports.
He further said the government has officially started implementing its policy to transform Gwadar Port into a major regional logistics and trade hub.
