Putin Rejects Claim That Pakistan Is Under China’s Influence

St. Petersburg: Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed the notion that Pakistan is entirely under China’s influence, describing the South Asian nation as an important country with independent and diverse international relations.

Speaking during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, President Putin responded to a question from an Indian journalist regarding Pakistan-China ties. He stated that portraying Pakistan as a country fully controlled by China is inaccurate.

Putin emphasized that Pakistan maintains balanced diplomatic relations with a wide range of countries and plays a significant role in regional and international affairs. He noted that Pakistan’s foreign policy reflects its own national interests and strategic priorities.

The Russian president also highlighted the long-standing defense and military cooperation between Russia and China, saying that bilateral relations between Moscow and Beijing are based on mutual interests and strategic partnership. He added that this cooperation is expected to continue in the future.

Addressing another question regarding Iran, Putin said that Russia enjoys relations built on trust with Iran and is prepared to contribute positively to efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.

Commenting on the conflict in Ukraine, Putin claimed that Russian forces had recently gained control of approximately 2,440 square kilometers of territory. At the same time, he reiterated Moscow’s willingness to pursue a peaceful resolution of the conflict through negotiations.

Observers view Putin’s remarks on Pakistan as a notable diplomatic signal, recognizing Pakistan’s independent foreign policy and its ability to maintain relationships with multiple global partners.
