Iran Rejects EU Criticism, Defends Right to Self-Defense
Tehran: Iran has strongly criticized the European Union’s stance on its recent military actions, calling the bloc’s position “hypocritical” and “irresponsible.”
Speaking to the media, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the European Union should uphold the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter instead of criticizing countries that respond to what they consider unlawful attacks.
Baghaei argued that targeting military facilities and resources allegedly used to launch attacks against another country falls within the framework of self-defense. He added that states have a responsibility to ensure their territory and assets are not used as a base for military operations against other nations.
The Iranian spokesman also addressed broader regional issues, saying that a lack of trust and shifting policies by the United States and Israel have contributed to delays in diplomatic efforts. He stressed that a ceasefire in Lebanon remains an essential component of any broader agreement aimed at ending hostilities involving the United States.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and ongoing diplomatic discussions regarding regional security and conflict resolution.
