Yemen’s Houthis Claim Attack on Israel, Announce Ban on Israeli Shipping in Red Sea

Sanaa: Yemen’s Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for a recent attack against Israel and announced a ban on Israeli-linked maritime navigation in the Red Sea, further raising tensions in an already volatile region.

In a statement released through its official communication channels, the group said it had targeted sensitive locations in the Jaffa area near Tel Aviv. The Houthis described the operation as a response to ongoing regional developments and Israeli military actions.

According to the statement, the attack was aimed at what the group called strategic Israeli sites. However, no independent confirmation of the claimed targets or the extent of any damage was immediately available.

The Houthis also declared that Israeli-affiliated shipping would no longer be permitted to operate through areas under their influence in the Red Sea. Group leaders said measures against Israeli maritime activity would continue as part of their broader campaign.

The movement warned that any further escalation in the region could trigger additional actions, stating that future developments would be met with stronger responses if tensions continue to rise.

The statement referenced the situations in Palestine, Gaza, Iran, Lebanon, and Iraq, saying the group would continue to support causes it considers linked to regional resistance and opposition to external pressure.

Israeli authorities had not issued a detailed response to the Houthi claims at the time of reporting. Meanwhile, security experts noted that threats against commercial shipping in the Red Sea could increase concerns for international trade routes and maritime security.

Analysts say any disruption to navigation through the Red Sea, one of the world’s most important shipping corridors, could have broader implications for global commerce and regional stability as conflicts across the Middle East continue to evolve.
