China Calls for Preservation of Ceasefire and Equal Dialogue Among Parties
New York, June 10, 2026 — China has urged all sides involved in the ongoing Middle East tensions to prioritize maintaining the ceasefire and pursue dialogue on the basis of equality rather than military pressure.
Speaking at the United Nations, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative, Sun Lei, said preserving the ceasefire should remain the international community’s foremost concern. He emphasized that disputes should be resolved through negotiations and mutual respect rather than the use of force.
Sun Lei stated that military actions against Iran during diplomatic engagement had undermined efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution. He warned that threats of war or the use of force regarding Iran’s nuclear issue could further increase instability and complicate the situation.
The Chinese diplomat also stressed that the United Nations should not be used to advance political agendas and called on the international community to help create favorable conditions for diplomatic solutions.
He added that the UN Security Council should focus on playing a constructive role in resolving disputes instead of pursuing additional sanctions against Iran.
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East. He urged all relevant parties to avoid actions that could worsen tensions and called for practical measures to reduce instability across the region.
According to Lin Jian, the ongoing dispute involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has had significant consequences for Gulf countries and the wider Middle East over recent months. He noted that experience has repeatedly shown that military solutions rarely resolve complex political issues and can instead deepen existing challenges.
The spokesperson further said that negotiations between Iran and the United States have reached an important stage and that all parties should refrain from actions that could reignite military confrontation.
China also reiterated its support for respecting the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of all countries in the region, while encouraging diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
As international concern grows over the situation, Beijing continues to advocate dialogue, restraint, and political engagement as the most effective path toward long-term regional stability.
