Big Bash League Set to Begin in India With Opening Match in Chennai
Chennai: Cricket Australia is reportedly planning to launch the upcoming season of the Big Bash League with an opening match in Chennai later this year.
According to media reports, the first fixtures of the tournament are expected to take place in December, with Chennai being selected as the preferred venue for the season opener. Preparations for the event have already started.
Reports suggest that Cricket Australia has received encouraging feedback from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and the Board of Control for Cricket in India regarding the proposal.
A five-member delegation from Cricket Australia recently visited Chennai and held meetings with local cricket officials. During the visit, the Australian representatives also attended the final home game of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
Indian media reports stated that the delegation completed an inspection of the proposed venue, although several matters still need approval at the government level before a final decision can be officially confirmed.
